Wine Press: Tim Atkin MW awarded the inaugural release of Goldmine White 2024 an impressive 93 points, noting its inspiration from the whites of the southern Rhône. He described it as “stony, savoury and lightly wooded, with aromas of laurel, thyme and white flowers and a palate of pear, citrus, peach and wet stones.” He recommends drinking between 2026 and 2031.

The Boekenhoutskloof team extends its vision beyond a single vineyard, drawing fruit from across the Western Cape to create a cuvée that reflects the richness and diversity of the region. This is Boekenhoutskloof’s first release of Goldmine, and it is already drawing critical acclaim. Fruit from five distinctive Cape farms: Swartland Chenin Blanc, which forms the backbone of the blend, while oak-aged Semillon adds structure. Chardonnay from the cool South Coast provides freshness  and a delicate touch of Viognier for aromatic lift. The wine is matured in a combination of seasoned French oak foudres, concrete eggs, clay amphora, and, only in the case of Chardonnay, new French barriques. Depending on vineyard and variety, the components spent 12 to 14 months in élevage before blending, ensuring both harmony and depth.

Tasting note: On the nose, aromas of quince, poached pear, nectarine, and subtle hints of spice. The palate has juicy stone fruit and vibrant citrus, balanced by lively acidity. Layers of ginger, cinnamon, and a gentle saline edge give it both complexity and freshness. The finish is long and mineral-driven, Elegant, textured, and crafted with great attention to detail.

Food match: Lobster tail or seafood in rich butter sauce.
