Gottfried Mocke bled off 30% of the juice on this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc in 2023 to concentrate what was left behind in a lighter vintage. Curated in 60% new oak, it combines aromas of mint, fynbos ad coffee bean with a refined, sappy, nicely delineated palate of bramble, blueberry and blackcurrant leaf and a fresh, focused finish.

Marc loves challenging vintages because they give him and his winemaker, Gottfried Mocke, more opportunities to show their God-given flair and encyclopaedic understanding of their fruit, the ferments, and the resulting extraction rates in the winery! This wine needed all their intuition and sleight of hand, given the challenging rainy conditions at vintage. But you can always depend on this dynamic duo, and they have made a remarkably forward wine with stunning, sleek fruit and a surprisingly plush outlook. In fact, you must drink this wine before the other three! Silky, layered, discreet, and charming, there is gentleness here, and it is irresistibly appealing. 18/20
