2011 First Drop Pintor Tempranillo, Barossa – AU
£22.99
£19.54 in a mixed 6 or £18.39 in a mixed 12

This not just a nice label and bottle, another strong wine from a really good winery. First Drop are doing some great things in the wine world! This is a great Tempranillo grown in Australia, very similar to Rioja, however, it is enjoyable now, but this is a wine that will improve with some ageing.

The nose is packed with dark, brambly fruit, dark toasted spices, cherries and mocha. On the palate is juicy and spicy with cherry fruit, clove, eucalyptus and tea-like complexities. Very nicely done, with some overstated chocolate and oak on the finish.

2013 Smoking Loon Viognier, California
£14.99
£12.74 in a mixed 6 or £11.99 in a mixed 12

Viognier is a Rhône variety which, after teetering on the verge of extinction, has seen a resurgence, most notably in France, California and Australia.
On the nose notes of mango chutney, exotic spices and tropical citrus, blood orange, ginger and honeysuckle aromas punch their way out of the glass. The palate is zippy and lush as expected. Tropical and spicy, this is a wine that pleases a crowd.
