So we have been busy looking for our perfect Summer Rosé. I think we've now found it: Back in the late 90's, Tom Bove, ex-owner of Miraval, bought La Mascaronne in Provence but kept this very much under the radar. He has invested considerable time in re-planting the vineyards and the quality shines through in what is now, our new favourite Provencal Rosé;
2016 Provence Rose Chateau La Mascaronne £16.99/6 Pack- £85 A classic Cinsault and Grenache blend, beautiful pale colour yet with intense nose of peach and lemon with large depth of flavour and remarkably long finish. This smooth, ripe wine comes from organic grapes grown in clay and stone soil that adds a mineral edge. Spice balances with citrus and red-plum fruits to give a lively wine with a perfumed aftertaste. 2015 Giano Dolcetto Merlot Dezzani - £12.99/ Mix 6- £11.04/ Mix12- £10.39 Dezzani made this wine as symbol of tradition and innovation, past and future marrying two different grapes, that are complementary. Dolcetto with its own personality and powerful tannins gives a lively red colour tending to violet, scents of red fruits typical of Piedmont Region, while Merlot goes together with the flavours of the first in its simpler being, which makes it suitable for everyone. Velvety and smooth to the tongue, it is a pleasant glass to drink on its own, as aperitif, or paired with first courses, barbecue and cheeses.
