Wines on Tasting in Church Street 22.10.16

22 October 2016

With the colder weather creeping in and the nights getting darker we wanted to focus the tasting this weekend on some richer weighter wines, for enjoying and savouring perhaps with a good meal and good conversation.

First up: 2011 Marques de Murrieta Capellania.

This is a delicious white Rioja made from 100% viura from a single vineyard on the Murrieta estate. There is limited production from this 5.5. hectares giving this wine both prestige and quality. Once picked the grapes are fermented and rested on their skins for a short while to increase the aromatics,  before being aged in new French oak for 15 -17 months (depending on vintage) and then a year in the bottle. The result is a smooth creamy texture, aromas of peach and apricot with a hint of orange blossom, with citrus and poached pear on the palate and a refreshing acidity to round it off.

20% off throughout October drops this to only £17.59 per bottle.

Next we have the unctuous 2012 Sottano Seleccion del Enologo. We couldn't resist cracking this open in the shops this weekend so we can not only share it's delciousness, but also show off what a bargain it is in our special case price of £90 for six (only £15 per bottle!). The 2012 Enologo has been aged for 12 months all in new barrels, 70% French Oak with a medium plus toast on them, and 30% American which again has a medium plus toast.  The delicious ripe, dark cassis fruit is a joy, complex, polished and very long.  The tannins are perfectly ripe and the wine has an impeccable sense of balance. We have limited stocks left so come and grab it while you still can at this amazing price.
