Wine on tasting in Weybridge 06.05.17

06 May 2017

We all have this interesting non-alcoholic gin on tasting this weekend, which is perfect if you want to have a drink and drive after.
A new line in the shop,
2015 Nals Margreid, Pinot Bianco,Penon, Alto Adige £18.99/Btl
The area consists of the regions Trentino and Alto Adige, neighbors in Northeast Italy, and is part of the Tre-Venezie trifecta. The northernmost region of Italy is fairly hilly due its closeness to the the Alps, and many vines in Trentino are terraced along the hillsides for ideal sunlight benefits. Alto Adige, in turn, has more vines on the valley floors, but enjoys warmer summers. White and sparkling are the name of the game here in quality and exports, although oddly enough, more red wine is produced. The majority of this red wine is drunk locally and in neighboring countries.

The Pinot Bianco Penon’s grapes turn out small and concentrated, as they ripen late in the high altitudes of the warm town of Penon. We vinify them into a wine of fresh structure and elegant acidity. With aromas of apple, citrus and ripe pineapple and a lively fi nish, the Pinot Bianco Penon makes for an excellent aperitif as well as an accompaniment to antipasti, pasta and fish.
Then,
2015 harewood Estate,Pinot noir, Denmark, Southern western Australia £20.99/Btl
James Kellie (formerly of Howard Park) has had extraordinary success in a relatively short time, winning trophies galore and for 10 consecutive years awarded the elusive 5 Red Star rating (the highest recognition possible from James Halliday, Australia’s most influential wine critic awarded to top 5% of wineries for  “a consistent record of excellence”).

Harewood Estate vineyard is located in the spectacularly beautiful coastal town of Denmark in Western Australia’s Great Southern wine region, 5 hours south east of Perth. The Great Southern wine growing region of WA provides unmatched versatility and quality for a winemaker.   From the elegance and delicacy of cool climate Riesling to the restrained intensity of Denmark Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

100% Denmark fruit from the original Harewood vineyard (planted in 1988) and the cooler more maritime site of Apricus Hill vineyard that adds savoury complexity. Pinot D5V12 clones and burgundian clones 114.115,777 grown at the 2 sites. Maturation in French oak.

Delicious characters of plum, red cherry and strawberries, complemented by earthy, mushroom characters and spicy French oak. Lovely depth of fruit, balance and terrific varietal characters for a Pinot at this modest price.
