Wine on tasting in East Molesey 05.05.17

05 May 2017

Getting a bit bored of the usual suspects, so decided to nominate some less normal toys to play with!

2013 – Mas de la Rime Blanc, Coteaux de Languedoc - £16.99/bottle, £5.00/glass
Long, and seductive with rich pure fruit and a lovely touch of minerality, this has the body of a white burgundy but the heart and soul of something from the Rhone. Quince, lightly spicy white flowers – delish, just not usual. Grab some Thai from next door and enjoy.
2013 Ch. De Messey, Macon-Cruzille - £18.99/bottle, £5.50/glass
Ch. du Messey is the 16th cent farmhouse/pile which serves as the HQ for Domaine Belleville. This is, in effect, their home farm warm – a warm, rich creamy Macon with floral and fruity aromas.  White peach and plum combined with notes of honeysuckle and almond on the palette are finished off with a palette-cleansing brush of acidity.
2011 Domaine Assmannshausen Hollenberg Spatburgunder Trocken, Rheingau - £29.99/bottle, £8.00/glass
Ripe red and black berry fruit held together by some serious lacy-tannin-lattice-work we’ve seen. This stuff rocks. Sourced from the monastery at Kloster Eberbach, these grapes trace their decent from the original Cistercian plantations of 1136. This is a cousin of many of Burgundy’s greats, and no poor relation.

Beyond that – we’ve been mainly planning stuff. Which is great fun – how about this?
