Without doubt one of the leading South African wineries Boekenhoutskloof is situated in a corner of the scenic Franschhoek Valley. Whilst first established back in 1776 it wasn't until Marc Kent's ownership that the completely renovated vineyard and estate started to build their current reputation. The Wolftrap is a tribute to the pioneers who in the early days ventured into the Cape wilderness and erected a wolf trap on Boekenhoutskloof.
There's a clear Rhône thread running through this blend, with Syrah taking the lead, supported by Mourvèdre and a touch of Viognier.
Tasting Note: Aromas are rich, perfumed and intense with its abundance of red and dark fruits such as plums and black cherries, traces of violets and rose petals, and liquorice and a hint of sweet tobacco notes. It is followed by a bold, plush palate with hints of iodine and cured meat adding to the layered complexity. The midpalate is smooth and opulent, with an earthy core, balanced acidity and velvety, ripe tannins.
Food match: Grilled meats and sausages.
