Guelbenzu is part of the Lombana estate, an elongated estate in the Queiles valley built on land that has been dated as more than 22 million years old. For the past 20 years the winery has managed 46 hectares of vineyard here, on stony ground that is particularly well suited to grapes because of its texture, drainage and resistance to both drought and frost.
The special microclimate here is governed by the proximity of Mount Moncayo, which causes wide temperature fluctuations between day and night. This results in grapes that are high in the tannins and anthocyanins that are essential for the production of full-bodied and characterful wines with great ageing potential.
