Wine on tasting in Weybridge 01.04.17

01 April 2017

2015 is so far the year of sensational wines from France and after sold out Burgundy en Primeur offer we are moving to the next great region- Rhône en Primeur is selling fast with some wines already sold out so don't miss out! Early March we had Winemakers dinner, epic wines from Hermitage in the North were presented by the Incredible Yann Chave and from the Southern Rhone brilliant Lafond Roc-Epine. Both Domaine have stunning wines on offer at incredible value, see page 8 and 12 of the offer.

On tasting this weekend we have another sublime wine from Southern Rhône 2014 Gigondas from Domaine La Bouissiere. A classic blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre, this wine is powerful and well balanced.  Flavours of ripe dark fruits, plum and spices are balanced by fresh, integrated acidity. Perfect with red meats, wild game or simply delicious cheese board, yumm £25.99 or 2 for £50!!!

This domaine is located in one of the prime spots in Gigondas at 350 to 500 metres above sea level, just in front of the stunning Dentelles des Montmirail mountains. The grapes get the most extraordinary exposure to sun, protection from winds, are planted on perfect terroirs and are now on average over 50 years old. The use of cement tanks for maturing the young wine post-fermentation is key to its success, according to the owners of the estate, brothers Gilles and Thierry Faravel. It was their grandfather who began growing grapes there; he inherited the land from his father. They have 9 hectares of vines in Gigondas and they practice organic farming as a matter of habit rather than as a rule, and the wines seem not to suffer as a result. See page 10 for all wines on offer.

Friday, I believe, is a take out night, so with your curry/Thai try this delicious 2014 Smoking Loon Viognier, California. Starts with explosive aromas of apricot, honey and mango fruit, flavours of peach, watermelon and lime zest marry to make a wonderfully complex wine that ends with controlled dryness and acidity. This wine finishes with endless, palate-saturating fruit, which complement a variety of foods to create an instant favourite. Try pairing with steamed clams, shrimp with coconut rice or a piece of delectable lemon meringue pie! Serve slightly chilled to preserve the fruit characteristic of the wine. £15.99/btl, Mix6 £13.59, Mix12 £12.79

See you over the weekend!

Marta xx
