Stark-Condé were named in the ‘First Growth’ category of Tim Atkin’s special report on South Africa in 2019 whilst winemaker Rudger van Wyk was named Young Winemaker of the Year 2019. Stark-Conde Wines is located in the picturesque Jonkershoek Valley in Stellenbosch. It is a dramatic valley with steep changes in vineyard elevation from 150 to 600 metres making for a range of sites with distinct characteristics.
This Syrah is made primarily from a unique vineyard on the estate which is scattered with large river stones. The resulting old-world style Syrah is elegant and floral, and is a contrast to the bold ripe style of the warmer growing regions. 1% of Viognier and 1% Roussanne grapes are co-fermented to add aromatics and a finely textured tannin. Deep purple tinged colour. Concentrated dark fruit aromas with liquorice, violet and white pepper notes. The palate is rich and broad with layers of fruit and a fine-grained tannin structure.
