"Patina is a classic expression of Syrah grown on schist soils, with racy, floral, baking spice aromas, fine, silky, aromatic strawberry and red cherry fruit, some texture from 50% whole bunches and no new oak. A Cape Cote Rotie. Plush, yet refined. 2022-26"

Purchased by Boekenhoutskloof in 2014, Patina wines grow come from Goldmine Farm. The Goldmine Property is situated on the Riebeeksrivier Road, between Riebeek-Kasteel and Malmesbury and sits on the southwestern slopes of the Kasteelberg. This pocket of the Swartland undoubtedly produces some of the finest grapes in the appellation. Boekenhoutskloof's experience of Goldmine and its soils results in concentrated, yet finessed, textured and well-structured wines.
The Patina Syrah is 100% whole-bunch spontaneous fermented in concrete vats, then elevated in classic European foudres for 18 months.
The resulting wine has intense aromas of dark berry fruit, juicy black plums and brambles, and whiffs of aniseed, leather and charcoal. Medium to full-bodied on the palate. Dense and fleshy, with a solid core of fruit and grippy, fine tannins, with enough acidity to balance.
