Grapes are sourced from Krohn's Quinta do Retiro Novo estate and neighbouring vineyards in the Rio Torto valley near Pinhao. Fermentation is in temperature controlled stainless steel vats, which is interrupted by the addition of grape spirit to preserve a certain degree of natural sweetness. The Port is aged for 2 years in 547 litre oak barrels (the traditional 'pipe') and large vats.
Deep red colour; opulent, rich plummy fruit with surprising depth of flavour, expressing pure, youthful and high quality fruit. Best served after a meal with mature hard cheeses or cakes made from almonds, chestnuts, chocolate or red fruits.
