Dirk Niepoort has created of an impressive range of iconic wines, and has become one of the most influential figures in Portuguese winemaking, constantly pushing boundaries and exploring new possibilities in viticulture and vinification. Niepoort founded in the Douro valley in 1842 as one of the minor port producers and shippers, they are unique in that they succeeded in avoiding extinction or being bought by one of the "Big Five" by becoming the first producer to both make and sell unfortified table wine.
Tasting note: Ruby in colour with vibrant aromas of red plum, cherry and wild herbs with a subtle mineral edge. The palate is poised, offering bright fruit, silky tannins and a vein of lively acidity that lifts and refreshes. Elegant and medium-bodied, it finishes long and savoury with hints of bittersweet berry and spice.
