2022 Greco di Tufo

"Greco is, with Fiano, one of the two great white varieties of Southern Italy -- and it may be even older than Fiano, though the case lies beyond proof. What's certain is that it can make refined, fresh, balanced whites which belie their latitude. Take a sniff of this wine and you might imagine you were up in the mountains, or close to some great ocean: it's fresh, sappy, ripely green, almost evoking PessacLeognan or the Pinot Bianco wines of Alto Adige. On the palate, it's true, you feel the southern width, depth, sinew and plump fruits, yet the poise and freshness sketched out on the nose never leaves the wine. Might Italy's greatest wines in fact come from the country's south? Located in Irpinia, in the Southwest of the Avellino province, Lapilli was established in 1996 as a family run business, and has been meticulously managed by its dedicated team ever since. With vineyards in and around the towns of Montefusco, Tufo, Benevento, Ponte and Torrecuso and vineyards on the hills of Lapio, Forino and Candida. In a region traditionally renowned for its premium wines, Lapilli have aimed to make these fabulous wines a little more accessible without compromising on the quality.

Notes of stone fruits dominate the aromas with peach and apricot, but there's a delicious complexity that comes with hints of pear, almond, sage and a twist of minerality. The acidity cleanses the palate and keeps the wine refreshing and moreish, while the ripe fruit gives the wine a certain roundness and softness which balances perfectly.
