The vineyards that produce the grapes for Ornezon’s wines are just 10 kilometres away from the shores of the Bassin de Thau, on France’s Mediterranean coastline – so it’s no surprise that you may detect a hint of saline in the finish alongside aromas of citrus and white fruits.
Run by the Vignerons de Florensac and overseen by winemaker Stephane Roques, this winery is a white wine specialist – something of a rarity among its neighbours in the south of France. Grapes are grown on clay and limestone soils, on high ground that nurtures the fruits with cooling breezes to protect them from strong daytime heat.
Eco-friendly approaches are at the fore here, with green techniques reducing pests in the vineyard and a large bank of solar panels powering refrigeration units.
