Organic Cave De Ribeauville

Located in Alsace · France

Cave de Ribeauville is said to be the oldest winemaking cooperative in France, with a history dating back to 1895 and a time when the Alsace region was annexed by Germany. Isolated from the rest of the France, the vineyards of this area started to become neglected until a group of winegrowers decided to band together and form a cooperative.

The simple process involved each member of the group bringing their grape harvest to the cooperative and receiving a fair price for the fruits. The winegrowers formed a board that allocated suitable jobs – skilled members made and bottled the wine while other members took care of sales and administrative tasks.

The project thrived, and continues to do so these days – the group currently has 110 members, covering 265 hectares of vineyards around the village of Ribeauvillé.
