Wines on Tasting in Church Street 18.11.16

18 November 2016

We're bucking the trends of the other shops down here in Church Street, and rather than showing off the obvious clutch of new Bordeaux (don't worry, we'll get to it!) we decided to go off piste!

First up is the stunning Flametree Chardonnay. We were lucky enough to be visited Cliff, the winemaker,  over the summer and so got a taste for the whole range of his wines. Forget your preconceptions about heavy over-oaked Chardonnay and get ready for this elegant well balanced wine. The 2015 has a wonderful combination of fine fruit flavours and tight structure associated with the new wave of modern Margaret River Chardonnays. Dried pear, grapefruit, melon and fig are supported by subtle French oak. The palate is textured and savoury, a result of wild ferment, solids and different yeast strains. Drink as a young wine or cellar in the short to medium term.

And to follow that, a wine that Abella Loidana Priorat 2013. Bold, ripe fruit flavours. Great value in what can be an expensive area. A blend of Grenache and Carignan. Oaky aromas of milk chocolate blend with plum and cherry scents, followed by complex and concentrated red and black fruit flavours. With 88 points from Wine Advocate this was one of the real stand outs for us last year and we're so excited to have it back on the shelf (no-one more so than Hamish!)

Both wines this week  are £19.99 per bottle or £15.19 in a mixed case.

Don't forget that we'll also have other great wines on tasting thanks to the Coravin system. Pop in to see what we've decided to show off this week.
