Wine on tasting in Weybridge 18_11_16

18 November 2016

We're getting ready for the festive season with literally pallets of wine arriving, so on show this week, we'll be showing:

2 sublime wines from Mas Belles Eaux

2012 Les Coteaux, Mas Belles Eaux £12.99/bt or £60/6 pack
89/100 The Wine Advocate
A solid wine from this estate, the 2012 Languedoc Les Coteaux checks in as a blend of 70% Syrah, 20% Grenache and 10% Mourvèdre. Aged 15 months in equal parts barrel and tank, it has a perfumed, pretty, medium-bodied and sexy style to go with classic raspberry, toasted spice, incense and dried flower nuances. It has loads of charm, is a solid value, and will drink nicely for 3-5 years.

and this cracker which is now 9 year on and drinking beautifully!

2007 St Helene, Mas Belles Eaux £16.99/bt or £75/6 pack
90pts The Wine Advocate

The Belles Eaux 2007 Languedoc Sainte Helene smells ripely of Morello cherry, black raspberry and blackberry, all of which then saturate a plush, well concentrated palate. While the barrels here are only slightly younger on aggregate than for the estate's Les Coteaux bottling, there is noticeable vanilla, spice, and caramel here from the barrel, though perfectly well integrated into the plush, sweetly ripe fruit matrix, along with notes of tobacco and resin. The fruit here sweetened yet further as it took on more air. How this handsome, polished, rather Bordeaux-like Languedoc might age I think I shall leave it to experience to determine, though I am sure it not going to collapse on you in the next several years. While due to press of time I had to rely on samples of recent Mas Belles Eaux releases, I did make use of a half hour noon break in my travel schedule one day to walk their vineyards on the edge of Caux, which are as impeccably cared-for as I expected, knowingthat this now nearly decade-old domaine was created by the A.X.A. insurance group (owners of Chateau Pichon Baron, etc.) now directed by Christian Seely. The estate is one of the few to have adopted the ultra-umbrella appellation "Languedoc" almost from its inception four years ago.The Saint Helene bottling is not handled much differently, but comes from the highest, best-drained parcels on the estate, and is composed of Syrah, Grenache, and Carignan.

The from Limoux - a Mini Meursault!!

2015 Chardonnay de Limoux Domaine Saint Roch £14.99 or £65/6 pack

And finally 2 second wines from great bdx vintages

2009 La Chapelle de Potensac £26.99/ Bt or £120/6pack

2010 Chames de Grand Corbin £24.99/bt or £115/6pack

(there's a joke somewhere in this name.....?!)
