The Waldschütz winery is one of the best in the Kamptal region (if not all of Austria), with a history dating back to the 19th century. This is a fabulous case made up from three of their wines:

2024 Gruner Veltliner

The Grüner Veltliner Wagram offers a clean yellow colour with greenish tints. On the nose, this wine presents itself with a typical black pepper aroma. After swirling the wine in a glass, the smell reminds one not only of pepper but also of green capsicum. As regards taste, the Grüner Veltliner classic Wagram can be described as a harmonious, light and fruity wine. With an elegant play of acidity and distinctive Veltliner aromas, this wine is able to convince the taster.

2023 Riesling

Grown on Kamptal’s rocky soils that lend the wine its characteristic freshness and minerality, this Riesling has a brilliant gold colour and a beautiful perfumed nose with hints of peach and apricot. It is, perhaps unsurprisingly, lean with vibrant acidity, and flavours of juicy red apple, more stone fruit and zesty citrus fruits. Dry, yet well-rounded, this is a classic Austrian Riesling, yet if you are partial to a cool climate Albarino or a Chenin Blanc, you will feel right at home with a glass or two of this. Pair with aromatic spiced foods or even fish and chips.

2024 Zweigelt Rose

This is an exciting dry rosé make from a blend of Zweigelt grapes sourced from the slopes of both Kamptal and Wagram. The fruit from Kamptal Valley provides a crisp, fresh mineral zing, while the powerful finish full of red berry fruit is supplied by the Wagram, with vines thriving on loess rich soils. Aromas of fresh strawberries and red currants with a slightly herbaceous note, and a palate of raspberry and sour cherries make this wine a lovely match for poached salmon, seafood paella or a creamy paneer curry. Also, it is a great match with a cheese
