Primitivo, as it's known in Italy, and Zinfandel in California, is a bold, rich grape variety. This mixed case celebrates three examples of this delicious grape, with 2 wines of each variety.
2019 Agricole Felline Giravolta Primitivo di Manduria, Puglia, Italy
The grapes are harvested in mid-September, fermented, and the wine is refined in French oak barriques for 9 months. Lightly spicy aromas of black cherry and vanilla. Red berry fruit on the palate with soft, velvety tannins and good length.
2021 Avalon Zinfandel, California, USA
Established in 2001 in bucolic western Sonoma County, Avalon offers approachable, delicious wines of unmatched quality. The Avalon Zinfandel is juicy and structured, with a long, velvety finish. Dark berry flavours of blackberry and plum with spicy notes on the nose.
2021 Caiaffa Primitivo, Puglia, Italy
Selected grapes are destemmed and crushed, fermented spontaneously in contact with the skins for about 20-25 days, before being ages for 3 months in oak. Bright, lifted, fresh aromas of red and dark fruits. On the palate it is slightly creamy yet very fresh with a hint of spice on the finish. Lovely balance, very bright and easy.
