2019 Cyrus One

Set 300 metres above the Aegean Sea and surrounded by ancient oak forests and olive groves, the estate of La Tour Melas has been planted around Kyros Melas’ utter love of all things Pomerol. He’s also passionate about the place Greek varietal Argiotiko should play on the world stage – and this is the result. Cyrus One is a blend of Cab-Franc, Merlot and Argiotiko, combining the strength and delightful fruit of the first two with the plum, velvety blackberry and rich power of the latter. This wine ages superbly, and arguably is the best Bordeaux-style blend in the shop for less than £30. Absolutely one of my favourites!

Nose offers intense blueberry and rasberry notes, freshness of the blackcurrant bud perfectly combined with the spices of the wood (vanilla, toasted aromas).
