Elgin is one of South Africa’s most exciting regions and remains a little off the beaten track. A thrilling region that is one of South Africa’s coolest wine growing regions with vineyards ranging between 250–400m. With a very strong maritime influence from the Atlantic, giving frequent cloud cover, enabling slower ripening is possible. This provides winemakers in Elgin the ability to make wines with lower alcohols, bright fresh acidities and with the longer “hang-time”, encourage complex flavour development, without over-ripeness.
