Created in 1929 by some of La Côte's winegrowers Uvavins - Cave de La Côte is a co-operative producing more than 200 different vintages representing the different towns and terroirs of the region including Clos, Châteaux (castles), Domaines (estates), all with well-marked tastes and characters. The wines are of superb quality and the team is ambitious to continue to create wines of international calibre as shown by the number of medals they win. This Pinot Noir is sourced from selected vineyards in the French area of La Cote. Decant this wine a little while before drinking as it can be a bit 'closed' initially and will appreciate time to open to its full potential.
Tasting note: The nose is filled with redcurrant, raspberry, and a hint of strawberry with a nice smokiness. On the palate, the red fruits come through again. The tannins are not too harsh or overwhelming and there is a fresh acidity. A easy drinking Pinot that puts its fruit front and centre is one of the most versatile food-pairing wines.
Food match: Pan-fried duck, game or venison dishes, or smoked cured meats or a sheep's milk cheese platters.
