Kamptal is a small, increasingly prestigious wine district located 35 miles northwest of Vienna, northern Austria. Steep, sun-baked terraced vineyards overlook its namesake, the River Kamp. The region produces some of the world’s finest white wines; including spicy Gruner Veltliner and flinty Riesling.
The vines for this classic Gruner are grown at altitudes between 370m and 420m, and this is a grape which really thrives on retained acidity, aided by warm day time temperatures and cooling nights – all those notes of white pepper and green apple just wouldn’t work without the acidity to back them up.
Pale yellow, but with shimmers of green, this Gruner has a clear and fruity bouquet with touches of zingy lemon. A touch exotic, with a backbone of delicate ginger spice and lashings of classic white pepper on the palate. Enjoy with simply grilled white meats, Asian cuisine, or on its own as a refreshing aperitif (a nice alternative to Sauvignon).
