The vineyard was first planted on the banks of the North Para River in Nuriootpa in 1894 by early German settlers, the Scholz family. In 1916, it was purchased by Samuel Elderton Tolley who named the Estate ‘Elderton’. Run by Neil and Lorraine Ashmead, moved to the Barossa, after Lorraine’s father identified a beautiful home with potential. The Ashmeads believed this would be a great place to raise their family. Elderton and Small Victories Wine Co are headed up by the second generation of the Ashmead family - Cam and Jules and Al and Bec.
The Elderton Barossa Shiraz comes from 3 vineyard sites, each giving a different character to this benchmark wine.
Typically rich and open on the nose with spiced plums and red and dark fruits leaping from the glass. The palate is vibrant and layered with more spice, rich dark fruits and beautifully integrated oak spice. This wine will continue to develop for up to 10 years from vintage.
