A organic Pinot Noir, from the Marlborough region, combines the winemaking heritage of the Sancerre-based Bourgeois family with the unique New Zealand terroir of clay/gravel soils.
This is a 96 hectare property bought by the Bourgeois wine family in 2001. They are committed to maintaining the bio-diversity of the farm and have plented various other crops over the last 15 years whilst converting the estate steadily to vineyard. The soil in Clos Henri, a kind of yellow-grey clay, is to be found on the very steep slopes where the vines enjoy excellent exposure to the sun. All these soils have only been used for pasture and never exposed to insecticides, herbicides or any other form of chemical treatments. The Bourgeois family are committed to maintain the local biodiversity.
Tasting note: Aromas of juicy cherries, fresh strawberries, plums, and dried flowers, enhanced by notes of earthiness, spice, and a delicate touch of liquorice or charcoal/graphite minerality. On the palate it is vibrant with an interesting structure of bright red fruit flavors On the finish it is fine, firm, and silky tannins with a long-lasting, satisfying finish and lively acidity.
