Cuvée Oligocène comes off the lieu-dit Pellans, on the Puligny side of Meursault, with 40 year old vines rooted in brown limestone. Profound and flinty at first, this savoury wine courses with energy. After some air time the flintiness moves more into lightly toasted wood, which remains on the lingering finish. Subtle white flowers, green apple, lightly smoked crushed stone, and lemon pith flood the medium bodied palate. Punching quite a bit beyond its weight as a humble Bourgogne Côte d'Or, this is more interesting than many Meursault I've tried of late.
