Laderas de Cabama is 100% Tempranillo, crafted from a single plot of 40-year-old vines in Ollauri where they are rooted in the classic clay/limestone soil indicative of the region. This wine is a step away from the traditional wine-making practices of Rioja, in that it has been made in a youthful, fruit-forward style to be enjoyed early. The fruit is picked a little earlier than the rest of Rioja and a portion of it undergoes fermentation by carbonic maceration (a method more often associated with Beaujolais) – this method results in juicy and ripe wines packed with sweet fruit flavour. While it has lashings of ripe fruit berry fruit flavours, this wine is also spicy and rich with dark berry and plum fruit, touches of spice and tobacco leaf notes which are as a result of the whole bunch fermentation method used in the winery. It has great depth and a long-finish with notes of herbal tea. This wine pairs fantastically with all manner of lamb dishes, from kofte to cutlets.
