2016 Rioja Reserva

Producing wonderfully classic styles of Rioja, it is a joy to find a Bodegas which makes such beautifully well made wines.  Bodegas Murua owns 51 plots of estate vineyards which grow several grape varietals. The estate features 80 hectares in the Rioja Alavesa region, dotted around the areas of Elciego, Laguardia, Villabuena de Álava, Leza, Lanciego and Navaridas. The vineyards are composed of clayey-calcareous soils and enjoy cooling breezes as the lie at at 450 metres above sea level.

Tasting note - A rich, complex nose with notes of dark cherry, red fruits, hints of coffee, cocao, spice and dried herbs.  On the palate the wine has a very well balanced weight, great depth of fruit, an excellent structure and finishes long and beautifully harmonious.  Made from a blend of 92% Tempranillo, 4% Graciano, 4% Mazuela and then aged for 18 months in French and American oak barrels. A wonderfully classy traditional Rioja Reserva.
