Wildeberg by Red

Located in Franschhoek · South Africa

Although Franschhoek had been an established wine region for around 350 years, no one had dared to try planting vines at Wildeberg – despite some stunning views, the wild patch of land high up on an untamed mountain didn’t seem to have much going for it on the agriculture front.

That wasn’t enough to put off a small group of optimists, however, who decided to take it on and give it a go. In fact, it turned out that Wildeberg was capable of producing delicious fruit that would complement grapes sourced from elsewhere around the region to create ‘exceptional wines from humble origins’.

These days, the farm’s compact barrel hall bubbles contentedly with wild ferments, and guests come along to stay in beautiful accommodation or sample wines in a truly spectacular tasting room.
