The beautiful rolling hills of Tuscany have a long history of being fruitful for winemaking – the area’s winemaking story goes all the way back to Roman times, with Florence becoming a major centre for wine-related activities during the Renaissance. These days, the region is one of Italy’s most prolific, as well as being the source of some top-quality names such as Chianti.

Sangiovese is by far the most popular grape in Tuscany, but the area also produces a number of styles including international grapes (such as chardonnay and merlot) and native varieties (notably trebbiano and ciliegiolo).
