Western Australia’s Margaret River region, on the coast south of Perth, is one of the world’s younger wine regions – the first winery was founded here in 1967. Since then, the region has quickly developed a reputation for world-class wines, particularly its chardonnays and cabernet sauvignons. The ocean breezes keep everything a little cooler than in other regions, leading to wines with elegant ripe fruit flavours rather than the punch of some other Australian wines.

As a relatively young region, it’s perhaps no surprise to find that the Margaret River is at the forefront of numerous wine trends including biodynamic and natural winemaking processes. Many wineries here also have tourism built in, with many offering accommodation, restaurants and tasting rooms that allow guests to get to the heart of this isolated wine region.
