West Road Wines On Tasting
As the God father of New Zealand winemaking is here in Reigate today to host a Vineking dinner I thought it best to show all those who could not make it to the dinner what great Sauvignon he produces.
2015 Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough New Zealand
£19.99p/b
Special Dozen Deal £180 (£15/bt)
Greywacke is arguably New Zealand’s best sauvignon blanc but unlike the other project with which Judd is famously associated – he made Cloudy Bay for two and a half decades – it isn’t an obvious wine.
Greywacke isn’t aiming to deliver the standard Marlborough wolf whistle of high acidity and pungent fruit with a piercing green tomato or herbaceous note. This is a delicious wine, and it is textured – rich and multi-layered.
2013 The Crusher Pinot Noir Clarksburg California
£14.99p/b or 6 for £75
This little beauty is powerfully aromatic, with notes of pomegranate, rose petal and nutmeg. Juicy and spicy on the palate, this wine exudes _flavours of plum, glazed strawberry and cinnamon bread from 12 months of French oak aging. Earthy notes dominate, showcasing the Clarksburg terroir and creating more nuanced complexity.
Ideal to chill but with the weather as it is no need to use the fridge just park a bottle outside for 20 minutes.
