Wines on Tasting in Church Street 09.06.17

It doesn't matter if it's pouring with rain or scorchio, we're determined to drink rosé because it's summer and gosh darn it that's what you do. This week we're taking the focus off Provence as we all know they do good stuff. Instead we're trying to broaded your horizons and show that other French pinks are worth exploring too.

2016 Cheval Gris Chateau L'Ermitage £10.99 p/b or two for £20!
90% Grenache 10% Carignan. This is a lovely pale rosé produced in the Carmargue at the delta of the Rhone river. The terroir here is unique with pools of salted water and lots of sand in the soils, and vineyards more like dunes! As a result the wines from this region have a great mineral finesse backed up by notes of white peach and mandarine.

2015 Originale Rosso Neropasso Mabis £12.99p/b or or two for £23
With all this rain around we've been seduced away from whites and decided to show off an excpetionally good value lucious red from the Veneto. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Corvina this wine is. Intense ruby red with a bouquet of spice with hints of cherry, black cherry and plum compote. It has a fine and velvety palate, full of lucious fruit  that is persistent and then with soft tannins at the end.
Due to meticulous work in the vineyard to ensure even ripening, whole bunches are harvested by hand at optimum ripeness and then they undergo strict selection to ensure they are 'thin' enough (air between the grapes within the bunch) to allow a steady drying process before crushing and fermentation. This gentle process gives the wine wonderful concentration and complexity.
