Nothing could say better the history of this estate than the words of François Pugibet, the winemaker and owner:
“It all began in 1890. My grandfather Louis Pugibet a blacksmith, fell in love with a winemaker and she gave him his first hectare as a gift for their marriage, naming the estate Colombette after the place he was born.
1966 marked a turning point in the future of La Colombette. It was at this time that I took on the estate. We didn’t have a tractor, everything was done by horse. I worked with this animal for seven years and if it wasn’t that it was always unpleasant, I would imagine the return of such beasts to be utopian.
From the early 70s, I planted vines that weren’t thought to be suitable for the conditions in Languedoc. Firstly Grenache and Syrah, then Chardonnay, Sauvignon and Pinot Noir. The quality improved when we worked on the most important factor for our region: temperature control.
Our greatest achievement was winning the award of the “Best Chardonnay in the World” twice, defeating the greatest Burgundies. This earned me the nickname that I quite enjoy; the "Devil of Chardonnay". It is better to be the devil than the Good Lord, we ask less of him.”
Golden in color and exotic fruit on the nose. A lovely freshness on the palate and subtle balance between acidity and sweetness.
