2024 Fei Tswei Magma Red Blend

The Fei Tswei winery is a boutique producer in Ningxia’s Helan Mountain wine region, one of China’s most promising areas for quality wine, where the conditions are ideal for growing organic grapes.
Ningxia is an isolated, high-altitude region at the foot of the imposing Helan Mountains, more than 1,000 metres above sea level near the border with Inner Mongolia. Low rainfall, intense sunlight and wide day-to-night temperature shifts create excellent conditions for grape growing, enabling many wineries to farm organically. Although grapes were grown here 2,000 years ago, modern Ningxia began to take shape in 1998, when extensive research confirmed the region’s potential and large areas were planted with vines.

The Magma Red Blend is a full-bodied, soft and satisfying unoaked red made from 41.5%
Cabernet Sauvignon, 41.5% Merlot, 11% Malbec and 6% Dunkelfelder. Generous ripe fruit is
balanced by the freshness of Ningxia’s high-altitude climate, while the Bordeaux varieties
give the wine structure and a smooth, rounded texture.
Tasting Note: Deep ruby in colour with inviting aromas of cassis, bramble fruit, dark cherry
and a touch of cedar spice. On the palate, this Ningxia red wine shows plenty of richness,
with layers of blackcurrant, blackberry and plum supported by gentle spice and subtle oak
notes. It finishes long and balanced, with ripe tannins and a hint of savoury spice. A full
bodied soft, satisfying red loaded with dark plum fruits and hints of cedar spice -great
complexity for the price. A confident and expressive Chinese red that shows just how
exciting Ningxia’s modern wine scene has become.
Food match: Slow-cooked beef cheek or with roast duck with five-spice glaze or perfect
with grilled steak with peppercorn sauce.
