Nestled in Portugal’s cool Dão region, some of the country’s most compelling vinous bargains are being crafted. With a meticulous, hands off approach to viticulture, the Adega de Penalva cooperative makes pure wines that speak of where they come from and are, above all else, deliciously drinkable.
Made from 40% Touriga Nacional, 30% Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), and 30% Jaen (Mencía). Hand-harvested, fully destemmed and aged in a combination of stainless steel and concrete tank.
Tasting Note: Bursting with cherries and violets on the nose, with a distinct pink peppercorn spice on the palate. It has pure fruit character, but masterfully balanced by some delicate, dusty tannins. Enjoyable as an aperitif, especially when chilled for a few moments in the fridge.
