Situated in the prestigious Canon-Fronsac appellation on Bordeaux's Right Bank, Château du Gazin has been in the Robert family since 1935. The estate comprises around 30 hectares of south and south-west facing vineyards planted on the clay-limestone slopes that have made Canon-Fronsac renowned for producing structured, characterful wines. The vineyard is predominantly planted to Merlot, supported by Cabernet Franc and a small proportion of Malbec, varieties that thrive on these limestone-rich soils. The family focuses on expressing the distinct terroir of the region, crafting wines that combine depth, freshness and elegance.

The warm and concentrated 2022 vintage has produced an outstanding example of Canon-Fronsac. A blend dominated by Merlot, with Cabernet Franc and Malbec adding complexity, the wine balances ripe fruit intensity with the freshness and structure typical of the appellation. The clay-limestone soils contribute a distinctive mineral character and firm backbone, giving the wine both immediate appeal and excellent ageing potential.

Tasting Note: Deep ruby-purple in colour, this expressive Bordeaux opens with aromas of ripe blackberry, black cherry and plum, layered with hints of cassis, sweet spice, cedar and subtle mocha. The palate is rich and generous, offering concentrated dark fruit flavours supported by supple tannins and a vibrant freshness. Notes of blackcurrant, bramble fruit, liquorice and gentle oak spice lead to a long, balanced finish with a touch of minerality. Accessible now but capable of developing further complexity over the next few years.
Food Pairing: Roast lamb, rib of beef, duck breast, game dishes, hearty stews and mature cheeses. Serve at 16-18°C.
