----------------------------------------
Ramilo is run by brothers, Nuno and Antonio Ramilo – they are 1st generation winemakers, producing wines from the vineyards their family has owned in DOC Colares for 4 generations. Before they decided to start making their own wine, the family used to sell all of their grapes to the local wine co-operative, as was the local tradition. The brothers decided to make the transition from grape grower to estate producer a few years ago, and they are still the region’s only private estate producer to vinify and bottle their own wines ‘in house’, rather than having them made by the local coop.
This wine is a traditional blend of Castelão, Aragonez and Touriga Nacional, hand-harvested, then foot-trodden in traditional concrete lagars and fermented using naturally occurring yeast. This wine is then bottled without fining or filtration to retain its authentic character. Deep violet in colour, this classic red has floral aromas combined with notes of balsamic from the Touriga Nacional and Castelão. The Aragonez brings elegance to the blend, flavours of dark berry fruit and a touch of earthiness to the finish which is long and complex. A perfect match for grilled steak, rich cheeses and even intensely flavoured oriental dishes.
