Contemporary wines celebrating traditional South African cultivars and the re-introduction of the Percheron to work the vineyards. Percheron is a breed of French heavy horse traditionally used when many of these prized old plots were first established – they are now enjoying a resurgence in South Africa as their hooves are gentler to the soil and surrounding vines.
Grapes for Percheron Shiraz Mourvedre has been sourced from traditional growers in the Swartland area of the Cape. Co-fermented Shiraz and Viognier do their thing whilst waiting for the later Mourvèdre to create this threesome. The nose suggests summer pudding, black cherries and crushed raspberries with notes of aromatic spice and a latent creaminess. Ripe, juicy on the palate which is at once vibrant and dark.
