Lavradores de Feitoria is a wine coop with a difference – all the growers they work with are shareholders in the business. The company, based in the heart of the Douro region, grew out of the disconnect between the improving quality of the region’s wines and the financial stability of the region’s people. The group decided to form in order to provide support to small producers and winemakers in the region; they pay above average price for the grapes they use and are committed to paying all their employees a fair living wage, which is not as common as you’d like to expect in this industry. 20 estates are strategically placed over the Douro’s sub-regions (Baixo Corgo, Cima Corgo and Douro Superior), and produce wines of quality which are great examples of the region.
This wine is an authentic expression of the Douro and is a blend of carefully selected fruit which grow on some of the highest and steepest Quintas (vineyards) which are located on the banks of the river. Made from a blend of Malvasia, Síria and Gouveio, the Branco is fermented in stainless steel to retain fresh fruit flavours, but spends a few months resting on lees which adds texture and complexity.
Fresh and fruit with beautiful aromatics of tropical fruit such as pineapple and gala melon, as well as notes of fresh pear and yellow plum. Another one to enjoy as an aperitif, or with grilled vegetable salads and lighter pasta dishes.
