2021 Fontanabianca Barbaresco Bordini

Brilliant garnet-red in colour with youthful ruby highlights. The nose is elegant and finely layered, opening with aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry, followed by classic Nebbiolo notes of rose petals, dried herbs and orange peel. Subtle hints of liquorice, sweet spice, tobacco and crushed stone emerge with aeration, adding complexity and depth.

On the palate, the wine is refined and structured, with vibrant acidity supporting flavours of red berries, sour cherry and blood orange. Silky yet firm tannins provide definition without overpowering the fruit, while the Bordini cru's characteristic finesse shines through in its balance and purity. Gentle savoury notes and mineral nuances carry through to a long, persistent finish marked by floral elegance and spice.

The excellent 2021 vintage has produced a Barbaresco of precision and energy, offering immediate appeal while possessing the structure for further development in bottle.

Fontanabianca is a family-owned estate located in the village of Neive, one of the most prestigious communes within the Barbaresco appellation in Piedmont. The winery was founded in 1969 by Franco Pola and remains under family ownership today, with the next generations continuing the estate's commitment to expressing the unique terroir of Neive. 

The estate comprises approximately 14-15 hectares of vineyards, situated on prime south and south-west facing slopes. Nebbiolo is the dominant variety, alongside smaller plantings of Barbera, Dolcetto and Arneis. The vineyards benefit from the calcareous clay soils and rolling hills that have made Barbaresco one of Italy's most celebrated wine regions. 

Fontanabianca's philosophy is rooted in producing wines that faithfully reflect their origin. The winery combines traditional Piedmontese winemaking with modern techniques, employing stainless steel fermentation and carefully balanced oak ageing to preserve fruit purity, elegance and site expression. The estate states that quality wine should always mirror the character of its local territory.
