Rui Roboredo is a champion for the extremes of the Douro Superior and his wines have the power and energy that you would expect from this high altitude region. He is pretty much single-handedly reviving the reputation of this region, with his old vines of native varieties such as Jaen and Tinta Roriz planted at some 700 metres above sea level. The winery really is his passion-project, having learned his craft there and then later returning to renovate it for a modern era of winemaking.
The terroir of his estate is rather unique in the region, on the edge of the Spanish meseta, the soil is rich in granite and schist and allows his vines to thrive. This wine is a blend of Tinta Roriz (a.k.a. Tempranillo), Jaen and Touriga Nacional. Dark fruit aromas on the nose, with a palate of berries and baking spice – this is a true winter warmer! Enjoy with roast lamb or beef, festive cheeseboards and charcuterie platters.
