It is made at famous Lalande de Pomerol Chateaux des Annereaux by the Hessel family whose ancestors can be traced back to 1390. The wine is mainly Merlot which is the classic grape of the region but also around 10% of Petit Verdot which adds depth and deep colour. It gets exactly the same care and attention as the Chateau wine but because the vines are just outside the Lalande de Pomerol appellation it costs much less for equivalent quality.
Deep purple -ruby colour with delicious black fruit aromas with a hint of cranberry and chocolate/spice; mouth filling and juicy on the palate with blackberry and ripe strawberry notes, fresh crunchy acidity as well as some sweet vanilla and cedar with silky-smooth, tobacco leaf tannins, integrated with a long fresh finish.
Delicious with roast and grilled meats, especially lamb and grilled vegetables and hard cheeses. It will age but it’s youthful and vibrant and completely delicious right now.
Grape varieties: Merlot 98% & Petit Verdot 2%
