Chateau Poujeaux, on the right bank of Bordeaux is a leading Cru Bourgeois property that consistently produces wines of Grand Cru Classé quality. Poujeaux is located in the commune of Moulis and can trace its history back to the 16th century. It has been owned and run since 1921 by the Theil family and today it is brothers Philippe and François who are at the helm. Château Poujeaux has always been characterised by a fairly modern style,
Tasting note: A vibrant, deep, inky colour of the vintage and dense, juicy blackcurrant fruit, with hints of mulberry bush, deep, dark, figgy and earthy notes. Classic cassis attack, massive concentration; this is a big wine with impressive length and large-scale tannins.
A Poujeaux for the long-term with lovely earthy complexity, this wine oozes with super-ripe tannins and harmonious oak. Although it remains a wine to keep, Château Poujeaux is always pleasant to drink in its youth, we can take great pleasure in the 2009 and 2010, their tannins are present but very integrated. In short, a cru bourgeois for which it is difficult to resist.
Wine press: "James Suckling 93-96/100 Full and very velvety, with round and juicy tannins. Creamy. New ownership here is really making a difference in wine quality; this is the best ever after maybe the 1929".
