Fine Wine Weekend
2012 Domaine La Prade Mari Chante De L'Olivier Minervois
I love the wines of the Minervois and this example is a beauty. The owner/ winemaker Eric Mari has some wonderful old vines with an average age of 40 years. This blend of Syrah, Grenache and Carignan delivers on the official tasting note: "A big rich elegant and powerful red. Floral and fruity with spice and very fine tannins. This wine is packed with dark ripe blackberry character and licquorice with black olive and rosemary, pepper and peppermint.
I could not have put it better myself.
£15.99 or 2 for £30
2013 Lugana Riserva Sergio Zenato
Stunning. The butcher has just melted after tasting this and the first customer to taste it, bought it. This exceptional wine comes from the town of Peschiera on the Southern shores of Lake Garda. The fruit itself comes from the oldest vines on the historical Massoni estate. What gives the wine its distinctive rich mouthfeel is the fact that they harvest the wine late and therefore the flavours are more developed.
£29.99p/b or £23.99 in a mixed 12 and worth every penny!
