Wine on tasting in East Molesey 01.04.17

Right all – seen some sunshine, so we are going to roll with the idea that summer is here. Or is that too optimistic? Either way – on the Vinebar this weekend….

2013 Palacio del Camino Real Crianza Tinto - £10.99/bot, £5/glass
Garnacha led Rioja in an easy juicy fruity drinking style. Made by the boys and girls at Vintae from a vineyard at the foot of the Sierra de la Demanda mountains in the heart of Rioja Alta, then barrelled for three months. Perfect for early-summer slurping.

2015 Palacio del Camino Real Blanco - £9.99/bot, £5/glass
Probably my favourite white Spanish for under £25 quid. A right blend of Viura, Malvasía, Garnacha Blanca and (enticingly) “others” this is a deliciously light and creamy style of white rioja. Loads of fruit with a nicely-controlled length and flavour, this was stonkingly perfect with a chicken and tarragon pie a fewweeks ago – and I bet will work with pretty much any white meat. And by itself. This is definitely a little cracker for £10.00 or under (just).

2016 La Tour Melas Rosé - £25.99/bot, £8.50/glass
Greek sunshine in a bottle. Argiorgitiko translates into Rosé really well – lots of fruit, a delicious crispness and a firm texture of slight strawberries and raspberries. Definitely for drinking now – as soon as we see the sun! La Tour Melas imported most of their vines and know-how from France, and in this wine it really shows – this bottled Greek sunshine is as near a stylistic copy of Provencal Rosé as we’ve yet seen. Absolutely worth the extra few quid up– dare I say it – a challenger  for the super-premiums pinks…?
