Church Street wine on tasting 04.07.17

04 July 2017

2015 Domaine De L'Aumonier, Touraine Chenonceaux, France.
£15.99 per bottle
£80 for 6 (£13.33pb)
£150 for 12 (£12.50pb)

Back by Hamish's demand! We had this last summer and loved it, then in January Hamish and Frank dashed over to the big Loire tasting in Angers and fell in love with it all over again.

Many of you will have tried the Touraine Sauvignon by Domaine Aumonier but this is subtly different and even better. Harvested from their very best vineyards, this is 100% Sauvignon aged for 6 months on its lees. Intense, ripe, citrussy fruits are balanced by a refreshing, crisp acidity, just the thing to kick off a weekend in the sunshine.

And speaking of sunshine...we're reliably informed that this is not a fluke and promises to stick around all weekend. Since Rebecca is stuck in the shops the entire time (violins at the ready guys!) she's persuaded Hamish to let her crack open the rose again. It might seem selfish, but obviously she's thinking only of you as if you didn't get a chance to try this last weekend you really should, not least because it's on a fantastic deal.

2016 Cru Classe Rose Rimauresque. - £17.99 or £90 for six.
With the delightful delicate peach colour we've come to expect from rose from the south of France this is a fine frolicsome drop of wine with flavours of red currents and wild red berries laced with a minerality and acidity. The great fruit flavour is a result of the longer growing season that far south and the bright acidity that balances and keeps this wine wonderfully dry is thanks to the Mistral winds cooling the vineyards. Don't pair this wine with anything other than a glass and good company!
