In the heart of Gavi’s hills, Tenuta del Melo spreads over a 20-hectare site, where young Cortese and Barberea vines are grown using biological methods. No chemicals are used here, either in the vineyard or in the cellar – the marly mineral soil of this area encourages deep root growth without much external help.
In keeping with this approach, the soil is boosted with natural nutrients through fermented manure – this increases the soil’s fertility and nutrition to produce top-quality grapes in an ecological way. Vine rows are also turfed to provide extra oxygen for the roots.
This attention to detail in all stages of winemaking produces some fine results in both the Gavi D.O.C.G and Piemonte D.O.C. Barbera.
